I recently bought a new cellular phone, a Nokia phone — again. After more than six months in South Korea with my Samsung D600e, I am back in Finland with Nokia E51. I finally bought the Nokia E51 after months of thinking, research, and hesitation. I bought the white steel version, although I also gave the black steel version a lot of thought.
Why Nokia? And also, why the E51? Was it because the phone is one of T3 magazine’s gold awardees for 2008? Was it because it is the cheapest usable Wi-Fi phone?
Let’s just say that I’ve set my mind long ago that the next phone I will buy will be a smart phone– Wi-Fi enabled and pleasant to use especially its keypad and interface.
This phone is worth raving because:
First, it has a Wi-Fi access and that means that I could go online while sipping my favorite venti mocha frappuccino.
Second, this is the best keypad I have ever laid my fingers on. Everything is well-spaced, very efficient and easy to press. The keypad feels good with its high quality rubber instead of cheapo-plastic.
Third, the phone feels good in the hand. The fact that it is not too light is a plus. The dimensions are wonderful, too. It must have taken Nokia a lot of research and calculation to come up with this balance. Ergonomics perfected.
Lastly, I believe that a true style never shouts. It certainly is not as flashy as Iphone or Samsung Omnia, but there is definitely a subtle sophistication about it that I absolutely appreciate. The simplicity is just a bonus given that we live in a third world country where robbers can detect the slightest hint of flashiness faster than sharks can smell blood.
